GERBER MARK II™ SITE AUTHORS

[John]

I served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1963 but saw no service in Vietnam. After my enlistment, I worked as a test engineer and software developer for the Aerospace Industry for 34 years. I am now retired.

I've been collecting and learning about the Gerber Mark II for over 30 years. I also collect John Ek and Randall Knives but on a limited scale.

I hold a FCC Technician Class Radio License. I also enjoy hiking, construction and maintenance of hiking trails, backpacking and botanical photography of native plants.

[John] I served in the US Army from 1984 - 2010. While I was in High School, I always wanted a Gerber MK I and MKII, but could not afford them. After graduating Basic, AIT and Airborne School, I purchased my first Gerber MKII and Camo Guardian ll at the Ft Benning Main Clothing and Sales Store. I decided to only take the Camo Guardian ll to my first duty station and carried it all 25 years. After being selected, and changing jobs, my First Team Sgt. gave me his 1967 MKII when he retired in 1991. He carried it on multiple tours of the Vietnam War. After I became disabled, and not able to continue my service with the Army, the 3 Gerber knives started a passion for collecting knives. I left the service with around 30 knives, but those 3 Gerber's were really the beginning of great enjoyment in learning about them. John has commented on my attention to detail. This is something that has complimented my research with knife collecting. It has raised more questions about the Gerber MKII & John Ek knives, than I can answer. I enjoy the research & collecting, and hope that all who wish to help can continue to gain knowledge for this great website. I was honored that John asked me co-author this website. I will never take credit for John's work, and will always strive to learn and share more about these great knives.
